Some people love to visit safe touristy areas while others like to find the authentic story in a country. If you are into the real daily life of the country of Italy, then head south. We are going to go to the notorious costal city of Napoli.
You will find that most Napoli guidebooks tell you to veer towards the port side of the city where most tourists sit sipping cappuccino. While the docks are certainly convenient for catching boats to nearby Amalfi, absolutely do not miss out on the grit and charm of this town.
If you are on a diet, Napoli is not going to be the place for you. Also known as Naples, the city has wicked food. Pizza was created here, which should tell you everything. The chocolate shops are sinful as are the pastry ones.
You can purchase handmade Italian cameos in nearly every tourist town surrounding Naples, but they are all made within Napoli itself. Putting on those walking shoes will allow you to visit the many small shops inside of the city that craft the best cameos in the world.
Napoli has always been the black sheep of the family of Italian cities. Hardcore travelers thought this was great because it was actually a tremendous destination. Well, the word is out and Naples is in the middle of a big boom.
Pay attention to the older ladies that sit upon their front doorsteps; look up at the gorgeous flowers cascading from balconies; and take the time to sample every bit of food that you come across. A walk through the heart of Naples is a walk that you will never forget.
Seriously, just take a walk. Down the oddest of streets you will find the real Italy. You will find craftsmen making elegant and beautiful pieces with their hands. They are friendly and the slower pace of life is something you will ultimately start thinking seems pretty good.
Napoli is an odd piece of the breathtaking Italian puzzle, though it is a piece that is vital to the survival of the Italian people. If you tire of museums and tourist shops, visit the city that will never put on any airs for those that venture through it. Napoli is part of the Italian life worth experiencing.
